Renault Megane: The Review

Renault Megane: The Review

21st November 2016

The Renault Megane has been one of the most popular cars on the road for many years now. It is now in its fourth generation and remaining a strong player in the hatchback market. It is a brilliant family hatchback, taking on the likes of the Ford Focus and the Volkswagen Golf. It is well worth considering getting this car on personal car leasing.

Engine under the bonnet

Under the Megane’s bonnet, there are two engines for both petrol and diesel. The low entry point engine is the TCe 130 petrol engine that has more power than some of its closest rivals. It develops 130 bhp, which gives it an acceleration speed from 0-60 mph in 10.3 seconds. With this model, you get decent running costs thanks to a fuel economy of 52.3 mpg, which is great for both manual and automatic gearboxes.

The second petrol engine is the TCe 205 petrol engine with an automatic gearbox. It produces 205 bhp and with regards to running costs has a fuel economy of 47.1 mpg. With regards to acceleration, this petrol model sprints from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds, which is not bad at all for a non-hot hatchback.

The two diesel engines start with the dCi 110 model. It throws out 110 bhp, making it less powerful than the entry level petrol engine. However, its fuel efficiency is better. It develops 76.4 mpg. This model is available with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The second of the diesel pair is the dCi 130. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 10 seconds and has fuel efficiency of 70.6 mpg.

Inside the Megane

When you slip inside the Renault Megane, you will find a vastly improved quality interior. The plastics they use are softer than in the previous models and the overall quality feels betters. Now the plastics are in the majority dark, however you can spice up the look with colourful trim pieces as well.

As long as you don’t buy the cheapest model, you will have a sat-nav as standard, with some of the higher models having an 8.7-inch portrait display. It is very easy to use and reacts to swipe and pinch finger gestures.

When it comes to passenger space, the Megane is longer and wider. This means the driving position is better thanks to more room and adjustments. You can also comfortably fit six foot adults in the front and rear. There are also additional, small storage areas including door bins and a variety of cup holders.

Open the boot and you will find 384-litres of boot capacity, which is bigger than the Volkswagen Golf. If you want more space, simply drop those back seats. This will increase the capacity up to an impressive 1,247-litres.

Driving

The Renault Megane is a well-tuned car that offers you an excellent drive. The steering feels more natural thanks to its accurate steering and smooth ride. This makes it great for a comfortable cruise on the motorway and on the twisty country roads. The six-speed gearbox is also very slick making it easy to drive.

Renault Megane’s are perfect hatchbacks for the small family. They have great space and brilliant driving capabilities. If you are tempted by a Renault Megane, we have a variety of new and used ones in stock and are available through car lease deal for personal or business use models.
