German car giants Mercedes-Benz has put a lot of effort into the new A-Class but what is interesting is where they have put it. Recognising that you can only do so much with engines and ride quality, Mercedes has focused on comfort and connectivity with the new A Class.
The one thing that all who get in the car will notice is the new dash... it's not just new, its positively awe inspiringly, up to date and on the mark. The basic spec has two seven-inch screens, connected navigation and voice activation and the premium equipment line has 2 x 10.25-inch media display and instrument displays.
There are four petrol and one diesel engine ranging from a 1300cc turbo petrol through to a more performance focused 2.0 litre petrol with the diesel a 1.5-litre where it's all about the 108g/km CO2 emissions. The 7 speed automatic gearbox is sublime though those who prefer manual can find some versions in the makeup though these are in the minority.
As with all Mercedes vehicles, trims such as SE, Sport and AMG line come with huge variations except for safety where the German manufacturer rather wisely includes almost all safety features in every trim and version.

The first thing you notice about the new Mercedes-Benz A Class Saloon is the aerodynamic shape and that's not surprising because this might be the most aerodynamic car in its class with a reputed 0.22 drag coefficient. The second thing is that you'll notice this is an A Class with a boot! Let the look grow on you and is you will see is that it looks amazing- the new Mercedes A Class Saloon drips class from its smooth pores.
At launch there will be a 1.3-litre petrol engine with 163hp or 136hp, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel with 116hp. There is also a 2.0-litre petrol producing up to 224hp. The new A Class comes with a seven-speed automatic clutch gearbox or a six-speed manual and is front-wheel drive.
The most expensive A Class Saloon with the 2.0-litre petrol, seven-speed gearbox and AMG trim is likely to retail for under 26k and the least expensive the 1.3-litre petrol with six-speed manual and SE trim at just over 18k so lease deals are likely to be very keen given Mercedes consistently high residual values.
