Ford Fiesta range completely revamped for 2022

Ford has revealed first details of the new Fiesta, with the UK’s most popular supermini offering confident new styling, enhanced technology, and mild-hybrid powertrains.

Variants will include Trend, Titanium, ST-Line and Active. Each model will benefit from unique styling elements alongside an expanded range of exterior colours, wheel designs and interior finishes.

Taking inspiration from the Ford Puma, the new Fiesta features a new bonnet design, and a more prominent upper grille with the Ford logo displayed within. LED headlights are offered as standard, with black surrounds offering a more sophisticated appearance to the front and rear lights.

The Trend and Titanium series feature a broad upper grille with a high gloss chrome surround and distinctive side vents. Titanium also features upper grille horizontal bars finished in hot-stamped chrome, matched with chrome window surrounds.

The Ford Performance-inspired ST-Line offers a sportier character and is recognisable by its new upper grille with deeper inset and gloss black honeycomb finish. Wide side vents are finished in body colour and a larger lower grille adds to the purposeful appearance.

The SUV-inspired Active variant is distinguished by more rugged design cues for an adventurous character. A wide upper grille features strong vertical strakes finished in gloss black, with taller and more prominent side vents reflecting the Active’s taller, crossover stance.

Taking pride of place within the cabin of the new Fiesta is a 12.3in TFT digital instrument cluster behind the wheel. This offers drivers the ability to personalise and prioritise information and features uniquely-themed displays to correspond with selected Drive Modes.

The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment is based on Ford’s SYNC 3 system, allowing drivers to control audio, navigation, and connected smartphones using simple voice commands. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered as standard.

The infotainment also displays a 180‑degree image from the available rear-view camera. This is just one safety feature offered in addendum to Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition, and Active Park Assist.

Other features available across the range include a wireless charging pad for smartphones and a B&O Sound System with 10-speakers.

Ford Fiesta engines

The new Fiesta delivers refined, responsive and fuel-efficient driving experiences using a range of EcoBoost Hybrid 48-volt mild-hybrid and EcoBoost petrol powertrains. This enables recovery and storage of energy usually lost during braking and coasting.

The new Fiesta’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid engine is available with 125 PS and 155 PS power outputs, combined with a six-speed manual transmission to offer 48mpg.

The 125 PS EcoBoost Hybrid is also available with a seven-speed, Powershift dual-clutch automatic transmission and 45mpg fuel efficiency. The Powershift transmission helps keep the engine at the optimum speed for efficiency, as well as enabling rolling Auto Start-Stop below 7 mph.

Don’t feel like any of this impacts the Fiesta’s famed engaging driving experience though. Normal, Sport and Eco drive modes enable drivers to adjust throttle response, ESC, traction control, plus gearshift timings for automatic models. Fiesta Active adds to this offering with Trail and Slippery modes also featured.

Ford Fiesta ST and Fiesta Van also revealed

It’s a full-on market assault for the Ford Fiesta, with the hot hatch Fiesta ST and practical Fiesta Van also being revealed as part of the new extended line-up.

The Fiesta ST offers 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph delivered by a 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine. 

In addition to the Normal and Sport Drive Modes, the new Fiesta ST also features a Track mode in place of new Fiesta’s Eco mode. This disables traction control and sets ESC to wide-slip mode for circuit driving.

The Fiesta Van offers the same engines, tech and kerb appeal as the traditional Fiesta, with the addition of solid panels instead of rear glazing. Durable and grippy flat rear load floor, four tie-down points, and full-height bulkhead with steel mesh upper-half for improved rearwards visibility finish the Fiesta Van’s unique appeal.

When can I lease the new Ford Fiesta?

The Fiesta range is priced from £16,620, with the Fiesta Van starting from £16,715. Availability is due in early 2022, so now might be the time to get a great deal on the outgoing model:
