Ford has revealed the new Ford Ranger Raptor, with the monstrous pick-up truck making a rather James Bond-esque entrance into the European market in this launch video:

Built to dominate in the desert, master the mountains and rule everywhere in between, the second-generation Ranger Raptor features an all-new twin-turbo 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 petrol engine. Tuned by Ford Performance, it offers a targeted 288PS and 491Nm of torque.

Ranger Raptor’s new powertrain delivers effortless acceleration on gravel, dirt, mud and sand. To match this comprehensive performance, an electronically‑controlled active exhaust system amplifies the engine note in four selectable modes – Quiet, Normal, Sport, Baja – enabling Ranger Raptor to adapt its vocal character.

A high-performance off-roader like the Ranger Raptor needs the running gear to match, so Ford engineers completely redesigned the suspension. A series of Raptor-specific mounts and reinforcements all combine to ensure the Ranger Raptor can handle punishing off-road conditions.

For the first time, Ranger Raptor gets an advanced full-time four-wheel drive system alongside seven selectable drive modes for on and off-road exploration. These include Normal, Sport and Slippery for on the road, and Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud and Baja for off-road.

The all-new Raptor is the first Ranger to arrive in Europe, with customer deliveries starting in late summer. For those not looking for this level of aggressive performance, read on to find out more about the upcoming regular Ranger….

Ford Ranger 2023: everything you need to know

Ford has revealed details of the fourth-gen Ranger pick-up truck. Slated to be released in the UK in 2023, it will feature new powertrains, a bold redesign and a revamped cabin.

As the best-selling pick-up truck in the UK, and fifth most popular light commercial vehicle in 2020, the next-generation Ranger is bold and confident and has borrowed a variety of styling cues from the America-only F-150 pick-up and Bronco SUV.

Ford Ranger design

The design of the new Ranger features a defined grille and signature C‑clamp headlight treatment at the front, while a subtle shoulder-line down the sides incorporates bolder wheel arches that gives Ranger a sure-footed stance. At the back, the taillights are designed in harmony with the signature graphics on the front.

The rear load space now features an integrated side-step installed behind the rear tyres, with a tough plastic-moulded bedliner offering additional protection from scrapes. The inclusion of extra cargo tie down points – on strong steel tube rails – provide convenient points to secure loads. Durable, flexible load box caps around the sides of the box and across the tailgate conceal structural attachment points for canopies and other aftermarket accessories.

Inside the car‑like cabin steps up, using premium soft‑touch materials, with the dual purpose of work and play in mind. At the heart of the Ranger’s cabin is the choice of a large 10.1-inch or 12-inch touchscreen in the centre stack. This complements the fully digital instrument panel and is loaded with Ford’s latest SYNC 4 system which offers voice-activated communication, entertainment and information systems.

Beneath the new bodywork is an upgraded chassis riding on a wheelbase 50mm longer and a track 50mm wider than the prior Ranger. A hydro‑formed front‑end structure creates more space in the engine bay for the new V6 engine and helps future-proof the Ranger for electrification in the future.

At launch, the Ranger will arrive with Single-Turbo and Bi-Turbo 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder diesels. The Single-Turbo will be offered in two different performance levels and delivers power, torque and fuel economy with no compromise. The Bi-Turbo engine is a more sophisticated, performance variant for customers who want more power but need to maintain fuel economy.

Customers will have a choice of two four-wheel drive systems – an electronic shift-on-the-fly system, or an advanced new full-time four-wheel drive system with a reassuring set-and-forget mode which has been designed for capability when and where customers need it.

Ford Ranger practicality

As the Ford Ranger has a wide spectrum of customers, using the pick-up for for everything from work and family to play, the ride and handling of the fourth-gen model has been developed to cover all bases. The rear suspension dampers have been shifted outboard of the frame rails to give drivers and passengers a better ride both on- and off‑road, no matter if they’re carrying heavy cargo for work, or just taking the family out for dinner.

Don’t think the pick-up truck has been emasculated though: Engineers have also moved the front wheels forward by 50mm for a better approach angle and outboard for better off-road articulation, both of which improve the off‑roading experience.
