The first mass-produced hatchback car was produced way back in 1961 by Renault in the form of the Renault 4 which eventually sold over 8 million units. Since then, the humble hatchback has grown from its perception as a small run around to a now often elongated family focused type of car that is a British favourite. While many often go for SUV and crossover vehicles, the hatchback will always have a place in British motoring and here are 5 of our most popular available as new, nearly new or as used zero deposit lease hatchbacks today.
First up, the brand new Ford Focus. The Ford Focus sold nearly 96,000 units in 2018 – 30,000 more units than its nearest rival, the famous Volkswagen Golf. Having the UK’s best selling car, let alone hatchback would normally mean leaving it well alone but Ford has updated the new Focus so that its ready to take on the next decade and transport hundreds of thousands of families all over the UK.
The new Ford Focus boasts Ford Co-Pilot360 and list of driver assist tech as long as your arm, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Stop and Go, Lane Centering and Active Park Assist 2. The Co-Pilot360 is cutting edge tech where the car scans its surroundings to help take evasive control to prevent or lessen the effect of accidents.
The previous Ford Focus had good connectivity but the new Ford Focus takes connectivity tech to a new level with the optional FordPass Connect modem, the ability to create a wifi hotspot in your car and live traffic… well played Ford!
The layout and cabin are typical no-nonsense Ford and there are a whole host of engine choices which build on the 1 litre and 1.5 litre EcoBoost 3 cylinder petrol engines plus, don’t forget Fords 8 speed automatic transmission which gives you increased efficiency and power.
The new Ford Focus is an impressive vehicle which we think you should be able to lease with the least amount of fuss which is why we offer no / zero deposit lease deals on brand new, nearly new and used Ford Focus cars.
Those looking for a more traditional hatchback which puts practicality and value front and centre plus a brilliant warranty will gravitate towards the Kia Ceed, previously known as the Cee’d. With its famous and market leading 7 year transferable warranty, CO2 emissions starting at only 99g/km, loads of standard tech and a solid safety rating the Ceed’s 3rd generation version is built for modern Britain but without the fuss found in many a hatchback trying to stretch into the “hot hatchback” category. Saying that, the Ceed quietly packs in practical extras and family focused extras like:
A Colour touch screen, Smartphone connectivity galore, alloy wheels together with a reversing camera and, of course, air-conditioning which all come as standard in the new Ceed.
Kia gives you 3 petrol engines to choose from ranging from the nippy 1.0 litre turbo through to the 1.4 GDI, also a turbo, and a respectable 0-62 MPH time of 8.9 seconds. The larger Diesel 1.6 comes in 2 power version, both of which are quiet and relatively smooth with good torque on tap.
Hippo Leasing specialises in zero deposit leasing and we lead the way when it comes to bending over backwards to help get you a no deposit deal on the Kia Ceed – just like we do with all of our new, nearly new and used cars.
Audi A3 Sportback
The Audi A3 Sportback is just about one of the most important cars that Audi produce. It’s a hatchback that introduces many to the Audi brand and its stunning looks combined with its excellent handling and amazing choice of engines means that it’s a real contender for the most favourite hatchback of them all- certainly in the luxury hatchback sector.
You have 5 engines to choose from and you can configure your A3 Sportback as a super frugal hatch with a 1.0 litre petrol engine or shift the power up to the 1.5 litre or 2.0 litre petrol with 190 PSI on tap to make it a very lively option. There are also 2 diesel varieties; a 1.6 litre or a 2.0 litre available in manual or auto where the 1.6 boasts as little as 103 g/km of CO2 emissions making it suitable for green-focused families as well as being particularly light on the wallet when it comes to fuel efficiency.
There are 4 main trims in the form of the SE Technik, the Sport, S line and new Black Edition. The SE Technik has 16” alloys, SD Card Sat Nav, cruise control, Xenon headlights and rear parking sensors while the new Black Edition has big boy18” alloys, a kicking sound system and privacy glass.
The Audi A3 Sportback is a proven hatchback that keeps delivering and we have the no deposit deals to make it that much easier to put a new or used A3 hatchback on your driveway today.
BMW 1 Series
The BMW 1 Series comes as a 3 door or a 5 door version. With its unconventional looks sometimes it’s easy to forget that the BMW 1 Series is actually a formidable hatchback which comes with so may engine and trim variations that this hatchback truly has something to offer everyone, especially when paired with a zero deposit deal making it even more accessible.
There are 4 trims, the SE, the Sport, the M Sport and the M Sport Shadow Edition. The top of the range BMW Shadow is very impressive with 18” light alloys, darkened rear lights, dark chrome, black kidney grill and LED headlights with dark surround…bacically dark and brooding, but in a good way!. The SE still comes with 16” alloys, a leather steering wheel and some judicious use of chrome.
The 1 Series has a wide selection of engines in automatic or manual, diesel or petrol. There are 4 cylinder and creative 3 cylinder versions which are especially economical, the 116 d for example only produces around 90g/km of CO2 emissions.
The 1 series is a particually good vehicle when it comes to retaining residual values which means that you benefit from reduced monthly lease payments making the no deposit deals on the BMW 1 Series even more compelling.
The Hyundai ix20 is a compact hatchback that never feels small. It’s pleasing in every way and has excellent standard specs in 3 trims plus it carries Hyundai’s amazing warranty with 5 years unlimited mileage and annual health checks.
There are 3 natty trims, the entry-level SE, the SE Nav and the top of the range Premium Nav. The SE is a good start as you still get air conditioning, lots of airbags, ABS braking, 16” alloy wheels, Bluetooth and rear parking sensors. If you move up to the SE Nav you also get a 7” touchscreen, a reversing camera and a satellite navigation system while the Premium Nav also gets a panoramic sunroof and privacy glass.
There are 3 engines, a grunty little 1.6 litre diesel engine which produces around 115PS at 4,000 rpm and 2 petrol engines available in the form of a 1.6 litre automatic or a 1.4 litre manual engine. The most efficient engine is the 1.6 litre diesel with claimed 115g/km CO2 emissions and just over 64 miles per gallon.
The Hyundai ix20 makes a lot of practical sense when you throw in the fantastic Hyundai warranty and our zero deposit lease deals.
