You read that right. The next car manufactured by SEAT could be named by you. The new car will be a seven-seat SUV, modelled off Skoda’s Kodiaq SUV. It will be joining SEAT’s current SUV the Ateca and the forthcoming Arona in its SUV range. This new car with its new name will be launched in October.
The competition runs from the 1st-22nd June and in that time you can visit the SEAT website and submit your name proposal. There are rules, however. SEAT is trying to avoid a Boaty McBoatface incident (imagine that: the SEAT Boaty). Instead, the name must be taken from Spanish geography (sounds like a school lesson that),whilst also matching the company’s brand values and be easy to pronounce in different languages (I can see why they don’t want to pick it themselves).
Once the deadline has been hit, SEAT will search through the proposals until they find the perfect three finalists. They will announce the three finalists at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 12th September. From that moment on, the name will be decided by a public vote (And you thought the General Election was the most important vote of your lifetime).
SEAT’s history with names
SEAT have troved the countryside of Spain for decades, plucking names from some of the most beautiful locations and greatest towns, cities and islands to name its cars. Here is a selection of cars named after places in Spain (so you don’t submit a copy by accident).
If you have travelled to Spain or just want the glory of naming a new car, check out the great country of Spain and find the perfect place, steal the name and submit it for SEAT’s consideration.
