Where are Britain’s most dangerous learner drivers?

Under the New Drivers Act, learner drivers aren’t exempt from receiving penalty points and unknown to many, they will be passed over to your full driving licence once you’ve passed your test.

There’s also a two-year probation for newly-qualified drivers, meaning if you get six or more points on your licence in the first two years, you’ll automatically lose your licence and go back to square one.

This got the team at Hippo Leasing thinking…where in Britain do learner drivers have the most penalty points?

To find out, Hippo Leasing put in a Freedom of Information request with the DVLA to obtain exclusive figures naming and shaming the postcode areas in Britain with the least law-abiding learner drivers.

It turns out, almost 67,000 learner drivers carry penalty points on their provisional driving licence.

When the total number of learner drivers in each postcode area is taken into account, learner drivers in the East of England’s Peterborough (PE) postcode area which includes Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire are the most likely to have penalty points, closely followed by Nottingham (NG),Northampton (NN),Bristol (BS) and Wakefield (WF) postcode areas.

When it comes to good behaviour, it seems learner drivers living in the Scottish PA postcode area are the most law-abiding and the least likely to be issued penalty points on their provisional licences. In fact, seven Scottish postcode areas (G, KA, ML, ZE, EG and FK) feature in the top ten list overall, with Harrogate (HG),Llandrindod Wells (LD) and London (WC) also listed.
