Read on to see some of the hybrid vehicles we already sell and new ones coming in 2019.

Petrol Hybrid Plug In PHEV vehicles for lease now

Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius needs no introduction. The Prius has been the stand out hybrid car since the turn of the century. At first, it seemed somewhat strange silently ghosting through city streets but now the Prius is so common that one almost expects to see one on every street.

The key to choice within the range is between an electric recovery hybrid, a plug in hybrid or the more spacious 7 seater Prius+ (covered in another overview.) By design, there is only one engine, the 1.8 litre petrol. The key to choice within the range is between an electric recovery hybrid, a plug in hybrid or the more spacious 7 seater Prius+ (covered in another overview.) The new plug in version not only produces up to 39 miles range on a single charge but comes in the top 2 specs – Business Edition Plus and Excel – which means an overflowing cup when it comes to standard extras too numerous to list here.

When you factor in Toyota’s 5 year (or 100,000 Mile, whichever comes first) warranty you realise just how sensible a choice the Toyota Prius is.

Kia Niro

You want a SUV that’s practical, spacious, fun to drive, embraces green values and is economical. We give you the Kia Niro!

This midsized SUV with a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine, electric motor and a hard working, but space saving, lithium-ion battery has emissions starting at 88 CO2  and a combined mpg of 74.3!

Now that you can check off fuel economy, what’s the kit like? Even the baseline Niro “2” comes with a 7” touchscreen with Nav, rear parking sensors, LED rear lights, a reversing camera and reams of smartphone connectivity. Kia’s twin clutch auto gearbox means that power from the petrol engine and the electric motor are well harnessed, unlike some value based hybrids! It’s spacious inside and you never feel like you are in a small hybrid thanks to some clever styling and a relatively long wheel base.

Throw in Kia’s market leading 7 year/100,00 mile warranty and you know you are onto a winner with the Kia Niro.

BMW 5 Series

The BMW 530e iPerformance with its hybrid battery allows you to go short distances ( up to 29 miles claimed by BMW) on electric power alone, making it a handy addition for those who want to save money and reduce emissions.

The 530e has a 2.0 litre petrol engine paired with a 9.2kWh battery pack and a small electric 95bhp motor. A full charge takes less than 5 hours to achieve from a standard plug though this can be cut down to 3 with a home fast charger. The BMW 530iPerformance is a very popular choice for executives that have a company car allowance with some serious tax savings plus the 530e is a pleasure to drive and will still get you from 0-62 mph in just over 6 seconds despite a claimed 141 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 46g/ km. All in all, a fantastic plugin petrol option!

Volvo Xc90 T8

The Volvo Xc90 T8 is a large SUV that combines style, comfort and an unfussy Scandi interior and exterior with a 2.0 litre petrol hybrid engine that pairs to an electric motor which together produces just over 400bhp and sumptuous driving experience.

The Xc90 T8 performs very well in all conditions and its range of about 25 miles is enough for many with a short commute or want the pleasure of electric only pottering around at the weekends. With CO2 emissions of only 59g/km the Volvo Xc90 T8 makes a very good company car where benefit in kind tax gets a haircut due to its reputed efficiency which, according to Volvo, can produce up to 108 miles per gallon.

Porshe Cayenne E-hybrid

The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is built to excite in and out of hybrid mode. In terms of numbers, the Cayenne E-Hybrid matches a 3.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine with a rear mounted electric motor that together produces 456 bhp and a decent 14.1 kWh battery that will take this hybrid Porsche up to 27 miles on electric alone.

In addition to stellar performance, the Porsche Cayenne E-hybrid also offers fantastic levels of comfort and an opulent cabin which means that not only is it a smart choice for company car buyers, its also a pleasure to drive and be driven in.

Hybrid petrol plugins coming in 2019

Hippo leasing already has a huge range of petrol hybrid PHEV plugin vehicles but here are some new and exciting petrol hybrids due for release in 2019.

Porsche 911

The eagerly anticipated 8th generation of the Porsche 911 will come with two 4 wheel drive plug in hybrid electric versions and the batteries will sit in the front of the cat giving the rear engined Porsche 911 a true 50/50 balance that will make this sports car the envy of many manufacturers – who says that batteries can’t be practical!

Toyota Rav 4

The Toyota Rav 4 (due out in the second quarter of 2019) will have a 2.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. Economy projections are not overly inspiring, just about getting 70 miles to the gallon but CO” emissions of just 102g/km make the Rav 4 one to consider.

Mercedes GLE

The Mercedes GLE is a firm favourite with those that want a large SUV but also want the Mercedes badge to guarantee them luxury and refinement. The new GLE will also have a plug in petrol version that is expected to deliver a range of about 50 miles and if you are after a 7 seater then the GLWE is hard to beat.

Volvo S60

Volvo has taken the brave step of moving away from diesel cars in favour of petrol hybrids for the new S60. There are 2 petrol hybrid engines that you will be able to choose from, either the T8 with a 2.0 litre petrol engine capable up up to 390 bhp or, in the new Polestar performance version an engine that squeezes up to 405 bhp from the new motor and the T8 will get you from 0-60 miles per hour in just under 5 seconds with its 4 wheel drive setup.

Mercedes GLB

The Mercedes GLB is a small to medium sized SUV set to take on the likes of the Audi Q2 and the BMW X1 and X2 when it is released in the second half of 2019. It’s safe to say that Mercedes are keeping their cards close to their chest on the GLB and doing a good job of keeping full specs under wraps but we do know that a plug-in version of the GLB is in plan so be sure to check from Autumn onwards for the best lease deals.
