Nissan has revealed first details of their new compact light commercial vehicle (LCV), Townstar.

Developed to perfectly meet the needs of customers who are looking for versatility, convenience, space and cargo on top of a hands-free parking system for complex city parking, the Townstar builds on the success of the larger e-NV200 and will be available in fully-electric as well as fuel-powered guise.

The fully electric version of the Townstar will come equipped with a 44kWh battery and offer 245Nm of torque and 177 miles of range. This is a 43 percent improvement over the outgoing e-NV200.

A refined 1.3-litre petrol engine option will also be available, fully compliant with the latest Euro 6d-Full emissions regulations. This will produce 130HP and 240Nm of torque, offering power and efficiency in equal measure.

With versatile configurations available, the all-new Townstar van will feature a 1,500kg towing capacity and up to 4.3m3 of cargo space. This enables the LCV to transport two Euro pallets and up to 800kg of cargo with ease.

The cargo area integrates large sliding doors on the side which help with unloading the van. There is also the option to have 60/40 French doors with 180 degree opening at the rear. Smart storage solutions and a dedicated space for on-board office tools are also offered.

A comprehensive suite of 20+ technologies unique to the van segment will be offered. This will include a variety of safety and advanced driver assistance features such as Side Wind Assist and Trailer Sway Assist.

Nissan is also integrating Around View Monitor (AVM) for the first time in the compact van segment: this uses multiple cameras to display a 360-degree overview of the area around the vehicle for ease of parking and maneuvering.

This is on top of the innovative ProPILOT advanced driver assistance system which allows the vehicle to automatically slow to a full stop and accelerate by following the vehicle ahead, as well as keeping it centred in the lane, when in traffic.

An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit will offer convenient connectivity features such as E-Call, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and wireless phone charging across the range. Further enhanced Connected Services will be available from the launch of the fully electric version.
