Skoda has revealed the fourth generation of the Fabia, with the award-winning supermini now the most spacious car within its segment and boasting further enhanced comfort, safety and assistance features.

As the entry-level model in the Skoda range, the Fabia will be available in four trim levels (S, SE Comfort, SE L and Colour Edition) with five petrol engine options.

As the first Fabia to be built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0 platform, the supermini shares the same underpinnings as the Audi A1, Seat Ibiza and Volkswagen Polo.

That means it has been completely redesigned to offer improved aerodynamics, increased safety, and improved handling. The front of the new Fabia is characterised by razor-sharp, narrow headlights which extend to a striking, hexagonal grille, while a larger roof spoiler and side finlets optimise the airflow at the rear.

With this complete redesign, the fourth generation Fabia has grown over previous generations. Now measuring 4,08mm, it’s 111mm longer than the model it replaces. The wheelbase and width of the Fabia has also increased by 94mm and 48mm respectively.

With the growth of the supermini has also come an increase in the boot capacity, with 380-litres now offered. Putting the rear seats down this extends to 1,190l.

With the additional space comes further comfort features such as lumbar support and heated windscreen. The 2021 Fabia will also offer dual-zone climate control for the first time ever.

Large circular air vents and the new Fabia lettering on the sides of the instrument-cluster add further visual design touches around the cabin, while Skoda’s famed ‘Simply Clever’ features dotted around the cabin include a parking ticket clip on the windshield, a removable cup holder between front seats, and a folding flexible storage compartment in the boot.

The infotainment system varies across the range, with three systems to choose from: Swing, a 6.5in colour display, Bolero, an 8in display with Bluetooth, and Amundsen, a free-standing unit measuring 9.2in and offering navigation and gesture control.

As standard, the Fabia comes with an analogue instrument panel and a 3.5-inch information screen behind the steering wheel. This can be upgraded to an optional 10.25in digital instrument cluster offering five different display options including a close-up of junctions, radio station logos, music album covers and caller profile photos.

Wireless smartphone charging is another convenience offered and allows for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to be used without a cable.

Skoda Fabia engines

The fourth generation Skoda Fabia will be exclusively offered with a petrol engine in various states of tune and capacity.

Entry level models will be offered with a three-cylinder 1.0 MPI EVO engine offering 64bhp and 79bhp via five-speed manual gearbox. This engine will offer a 0-62mph time of between 15.5 and 15.9sec, 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 114-124g/km.

For those wanting a little bit extra, a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI Evo is offered with either a five or six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. At its most powerful, the turbo petrol offers a 0-62 of 9.6 seconds via 108bhp.

At the top of the line-up is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This is offered exclusively with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox which produces a 0-62 of 8 seconds and 148bhp.

With anywhere between 50-60mpg offered across the Fabia range, the supermini promises to be one of the most economical cars in its class.
