American car-maker Ford keeps getting it right with the Max Range. The Grand C-Max had a facelift in 2017 which sees it look sharp from the front with a solid and pleasing cabin, a good all-round choice of engines and the all-important seven-seater tag which Ford actually call a 6+1 on the basis that you can fold up the middle second row seat to give easy access to the back row.
It’s 140mm longer than its smaller brother, the C-Max and it’s also 58mm higher. It feels surprisingly spacious inside and comes in three trims, the Zetec, the Titanium and the Titanium X. Even the entry level Zetec gets electric windows all round; hill start assist air conditioning; cruise control; 16-inch alloy wheels; ABS; traction control, plus electronic stability control. The Titanium X will also give you an 8-inch touch screen; 17-inch alloy wheels; and a panoramic sunroof.
The engines are more than adequate with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol that still gets 125PS coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox. There are two versions of a 1.5-litre diesel and, depending on which one you go for, you will get a faster car (10.2 seconds for 0-62 mph) with 176g/km CO2 emissions or a slightly slower but more economical one with 124g/km CO2 emissions.
