While Fiat may be more famous for manufacturing some of the most beloved city cars such as the 500, the Fiat van models offered by the Italian brand include some of the best in the commercial vehicle segment.
With that in mind Fiat’s line-up is diverse and well-suited to a variety of tasks, from carrying light goods and building materials to passenger transport.
And with the strong record of the Fiat engines giving the brand a well-deserved reputation for reliability, it’s no wonder people return to their range again and again.
But which Fiat van model is right for you and your business? Below we’ll highlight the current range as well as a discontinued model we still have available.
The Fiat Ducato is one of the most versatile vehicles on the market, with class leading payload, volume and axle loads combined with an extensive choice of wheelbase, length and height variants. Standing at the top of the Fiat van models range, it’s suitable for everything from carrying passengers and making deliveries to refrigerated vehicles and camping.
As stated, the engine range has always been one of the major strengths of Fiat Professional. The current model Ducato continues that tradition with a new industrially-derived 2.3-litre engine. This offers a comprehensive range suitable for every utility, with its variable geometry compressor resulting in a smoother drive, increased flexibility at low speeds, and improved fuel consumption.
New driving assist systems – including full brake control, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition for added driver and pedestrian safety – also feature as well as Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
Other key features include up to 17m³ of load space, a squared cargo area shape to arrange goods more effectively, and a low threshold which makes everyday loading/unloading easier.
With available height options varying from 2254-2774mm, wheelbase varying from 3000-4035mm, and length varying from 4963-6363mm depending on user specification, there’s a version of the Ducato suitable for whatever job needs doing.
Fiat Ducato Truck
The truck version of the Ducato builds on all the strengths of the van model by offering increased versatility and a multitude of customisation options to suit your business.
Whether you need single-cab, doublecab or added side-tipper action, there’s four lengths available up to 6.7m, all offering a payload capacity just over two tonnes.
Utilising the same Ducato Multijet₃ powertrain as the van, Light Duty and Heavy Duty homologation (120hp, 140hp, 160hp, and 180hp power levels) are available with manual and automatic transmissions, all with a reduced noise level, weight and fuel consumption on previous models.
Key features for the truck version of the Ducato include a flat-bed load area with surface of 5.6 to 8.5 squared metres. This can handle gross vehicle weights of 3.5 tonnes and up to 1.4 tonnes of payload to ease your work load with practical side-boards, rear boarding folding step and non-slip surface for ease.
Fiat’s first foray into the world of zero emissions all-electric commercial vehicles, the E-Ducato is available as either a goods van, chassis cab, or passenger van to offer something for every business.
The first electric in the Fiat van models range, this goods vehicle is available in three different heights (H1 2309mm, H2 2579mm, H3 2814mm), three different lengths (L2 5413mm, L3 5998mm, L4 6363mm) and three different wheelbase sizes (L2 3450mm, L3 4035mm, L4 4035XLmm).
The chassis cab is offered with a choice of three different lengths (L2 5358mm, L3 5708mm, L4 5943mm) and four different wheelbase sizes (L2 3450mm, L2.5 3800mm, L3 4035mm, L4 4035XLmm), whilst the passenger version can be ordered with seating for between 5 and 9 passengers.
With two battery configurations across the range – three modules with 47kWh for a range of 142 miles or five modules with 79kWh and 223 miles – as well as four different charging options and a smart-charge plug that fits both AC and DC charging configurations, the E-Ducato builds on the existing strengths of the original Ducato and adds something new.
Utilising the 50kW DC charger, both the 47kWh & 79kWh batteries can be charged to 80% capacity in 30 minutes.
Like the larger Ducato range, the Fiat Doblo Cargo gives businesses a similar offering and shows its true versatility with a number of different versions including Cargo, Maxi Cargo, Cargo XL, Passenger, Maxi Passenger, XL Passenger, Crew Van, Work up and Maxi Platform. This multifaceted offering ensures it’s suitable for a variety of business needs.
Where the Doblo range differentiates itself from its other van siblings is by its car-like design: the distinctive front end and streamlined bonnet follows the curve of the roof to give a compact yet well-proportioned appearance.
With its best-in-class load area of up to 5.4m³ and class leading payload of up to one tonne, the Doblo is suitable for most tasks. This is emphasised by Fiat’s “one mission one engine strategy” to offer faultless performance whatever the requirement and type of use.
As such its engine line-up includes a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel available with a choice of two power outputs, 80hp and 95hp, and a 1.6-litre MultiJet engine which can deliver either 105hp or 120hp.
There are four trim levels available across the Doblo range: Standard, SX, Tecnico and Sportivo. The Standard specification offers a selection of safety and comfort features, as well as the new Eco pack which adds Stop&Start, a smart alternator and an electronically-controlled fuel pump to save energy and ensure higher combustion efficiency.
The SX trim builds on this adding a near-side sliding door, driver height-adjustable seat and body coloured door mirrors, the Tecnico trim adds air conditioning, reversing sensors, satellite navigation and cruise control, while the Sportivo tops the range and is available exclusively in black metallic with 16-inch alloy wheels and folding electric heated door mirrors.
On the smaller end of the scale sits the Fiat Forino, a model which basically invented the small van segment when it was launched in 1977. With over 370,000 units sold since then, the Fiorino is now in its third generation and was facelifted in 2016.
A van built for this city, the Fiorino offers a functional approach to the design and practicalities of a small commercial vehicle making it the ideal option for inner-city trade users. That means it’s compact (at just 3.8m long) but also offers more capacity than the likes of the Ford Fiesta van, with a commodius load bay able to hold up to 2.8m³
While the Fiorino range doesn’t offer the level of variety as others in the Fiat range, it’s available as a standard or Combi crew van with two or five seats. A passenger van version is also available in the range.
The comprehensive line-up of engines – all Euro 6 – can satisfy all needs. The range features two turbo-diesel 1.3 MultiJet II engines with outputs of 80 and 95hp as well as a 77hp 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit.
Cheap, reliable, dependable, the Fiorino is the perfect choice for businesses who deliver small items or require car-like maneuverability.
Fiat Fullback: Discontinued but still available
We were sad to see the Fullback pick-up truck axed from the Fiat van models range in 2019. Based on the workhorse Mitsubishi L200, the Fullback was basically a rebadged version of that accomplished pick-up truck albeit with a slightly different spec and lower price point.
Unfortunately, none of those things helped Fiat gain a foothold in the pick-up segment, with head of Fiat Professional, Richard Chamberlain, confirming that low sales volumes and Euro 6 diesel emissions legislation meant it was no longer viable for Fiat Professional to offer the Fullback.
The good news is the Fullback is still in stock and available for business lease for the time being.
