The A3 may be best known as a hatchback, but you can also get it as a saloon.
In the new Audi A3 personal and business lease range, the hatchback option is actually a ‘Sportback’ – coupling five-door practicality with elements of coupe styling. This is the staple option and probably the way to go for family-minded use.
The saloon adds a more executive edge to the A3, coming in just slightly longer than the Sportback for more adult-friendly legroom in both the front and back seats. The boot is actually bigger than the Sportback’s, but the saloon-style opening means the Sportback is still more versatile in its storage capabilities. The saloon also has a lower roofline, which offers more style but less headroom for bigger passengers in the back.
Trim levels
There are four core trims to consider with the Audi A3 contract hire range. In order, that’s the Technik, Sport, S line and Black Edition.
Technik is available as a base option for the Sportback and comes well-equipped with 16” alloys, air conditioning, a sat nav and a DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity. Upgrade to Sport and you’ll get 17” alloys, Audi Drive Select cruise control, climate control, leather furnishings and an array of matte black trims on the exterior.
Opt for S line trim and you’ll get 18” alloys with a sports suspension set up for a firmer ride, with additional performance-inspired styling. The Black Edition adds matte and gloss black details and privacy glass to the S line package.

Engine options
Audi has played around with the engine lineup for the A3 in recent years, dropping two diesel options to leave a sole 148bhp 35 TDI drivetrain behind. You can also get 1.0-litre 109bhp 30TFSI petrol and a bigger 1.5-litre 148bhp 35 TFSI petrol – the latter being arguably the most popular option in the ICE range. Economy figures across these options range from either side of the 50mpg mark for the petrol engines, while the 35 TDI teeters over 60mpg if driven carefully.
