The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class 4-door saloon is a world away from the A-Class family hatchback we have come to know and love. The new 2018 model is the affectionately-called ‘Baby-Benz’ first offering as a sedan.

Distinctively Different Design

On the exterior, it’s only when you get to the C-pillar that the saloon starts looking distinctively different to the preceding A-Class. A curved roofline that slopes sharply downwards leads to the new rear saloon-style boot. There is also a slight change in the relocation of the door mirrors from the corners of the front windows to the tops of the front doors. Slimline headlights, a large Mercedes badge and smart grille add to the sporty and expensive look.

Technical Prowess On The Inside

Expectedly, the cabin is near identical to the A-Class hatch. Inside is the same Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) voice activation system featuring voice control and a responsive touchscreen (not included at base price).

For those unfamiliar, the MBUX infotainment system allows a huge degree of interaction with the vehicle, all based around common speech. That way, you can ask the A-Class for directions and it will navigate accordingly. The system can respond to a variety of commands beginning with as well as commands beginning with ‘Hey Mercedes’, and is also designed to learn what drivers need based on their daily usage.

Turbine-style air vents and lavish trim pieces could even trick you into thinking you’re looking at the interior of the significantly more expensive Mercedes S-Class saloon.

What’s more, the fully free-standing cockpit is available in three versions:

  • with two 7-inch displays (17.78 cm)
  • with one 7-inch and one 10.25-inch (26 cm) display and
  • with two 10.25-inch displays

The cockpit options give drivers a seamless, high-resolution visual experience for staying in charge of their car. Additionally, the interior’s ambient lighting makes you feel at home.

Mercedes-Benz 2018 A-Class Sedan Specs

Engine choices will be limited at first – the choice will be the 1.3-litre A200 petrol engine with 161bhp and 184 lb-ft, or the 1.5-litre A180d diesel with 114bhp and 192 lb ft.

More powerful models are expected to be announced later, however of these two options, we would recommend the diesel for a smoother drive.

Mercedes’ biggest claim isn’t aesthetic, nor is it speed. In fact, the sedan claims to have the ‘lowest aerodynamic drag of any production vehicle worldwide’ which should result in both low levels of wind noise and good fuel efficiency.

When Can I Drive The New A-Class?

Mercedes has already launched the A-Class L Sedan for the Chinese market. But, the new 2018 A-Class model coming to the UK is set to make its first public sighting at the Paris Motor Show on 4th October. It will then go on sale at the end of 2018 and will finally be out on roads and in showrooms in Spring 2019.

Fantastic, But What Does The New Mercedes-Benz A-Class Cost?

The 2018 Mercedes A-Class Saloon prices are yet to be confirmed, but expect a starting price of around £28,000, increasing to over £40,000 dependant on range. At that amount, it makes sense to consider a contract hire agreement on the car or a personal contract payment deal, which Hippo will have an attractive deal on, once the car is available.

The new A-Class is a model we’re looking forward to being able to offer you a fantastic lease deal on when it comes out and will sit perfectly with its sister, the A-Class hatchback.

If you believe the elegant design and first-class performance of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the perfect car for you and want to get in the driver’s seat as soon as possible, we have a range of lease deals on the A-Class to choose from. Enquire online today!
