Whether you love or hate the BMW 1 series it certainly stands out from the crowd and not only is it desirable but it is affordable too.

strong>What Car said ‘The only rear-drive hatch in the class scores with a strong combination of performance, economy and emissions. The BMW 1 Series handles well and rides comfortably, too’.

There’s a wide range of economical engines available in the BMW range so you won’t be stuck for choice there.

The styling of the BMW 1 series is unmistakable with its trademark large headlights and kidney grille. The wide stance of the vehicle together with the flared wheel arches give the 1 series an overall sportier and more dynamic feel than others in its class.

Inside, it’s extremely spacious and very well-built. The stylish trimmed dashboard, chunky controls, leather and the metal that is used throughout the cabin makes it feel like a lot of car for your money.

CarBuyer have given the car a 4.3/5 rating and highlighted the pros as being a great vehicle to drive a frugal engine and a top class interior.

The BMW 1 series comes complete with air-conditioning, both electric front and rear windows, electric and heated mirrors, power steering, seat height adjustment, CD player with auxiliary connectivity, Bluetooth, split/fold seats, ABS, deadlocks, immobiliser and both central and remote locking.

The features do vary between the specifications but in some aspects the 1 series can be lacking in comparison to rivals such as the Volkswagen Golf and Seat Leon, whose more affordable models come with some more advanced kit options.

Now, driving the 1 series is where it really gets exciting. The M135i petrol model can reach 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds. Very impressive and it does still give 37.7mpg (Figure taken from CarBuyer). When you’re driving the BMW 1 series there’s little noise from the engine and any bumps in the road are easily absorbed making your journey exceptionally comfortable. In the NCAP crash safety tests the 1 series was awarded the maximum five star rating.

The 116d Efficient Dynamics model is the most efficient and economical with a manufacturer mpg os 74.3, and it only emits a tax free 99g/km of CO2. If you’re looking for an economical vehicle then we suggest you opt for a diesel engine.

For a 2l turbo 13 plate 1 series you will be paying just £269.98 per month including VAT on a personal leasebasis.

If you wanted a 2l M Sport 12 plate 1 series with low mileage it will cost a bit more a month at £328.63 including VAT.

On the whole the BMW 1 series is an extremely stylish vehicle and drives particularly well in comparison to many of its rivals.
