This 420d Gran Coupe is a sleeker take on the 3-Series Saloon, with an added touch of practicality, thanks to its boot design. With a handling along the same sporty theme as the 4-Series Coupe and the addition of the M Sport trim, it definitely ticks all the boxes of its target buyers, the luxury car market.
Although it shares similar dimensions and styling to the 3-Series, the Gran Coupe is 14mm longer and offers a higher level of kit, as well as a more curvaceous coupe silhouette. The higher price tag that comes with the Gran Coupe over a standard 3 Series gets you a full Dakota Leather interior, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, a digital radio and a 6.5-inch colour screen, all as standard.
This top of the range 420d M Sport successfully delivers strong acceleration and is usefully most economical too. The 4-Series Gran Coupe inspires huge confidence thanks to its well-weighted steering and balanced handling. Although the M-Sport suspension is firm, it is good at soaking up bumps in the road.
To accommodate rear doors, the roofline of the Gran Coupe has been stretched by 112mm and is 12mm higher. As a result, there’s more interior space and room to comfortably seat the third rear passenger. In the front, the Gran Coupe offers plentiful space for two adults, large door bins, central storage and a good-sized glovebox.
The 4-Series Gran Coupe uses the same award-winning dash layout found in the 3-Series, both in terms of material choices and functionality. The car’s central iDrive system uses a screen placed on top of the dash, useful to always have your eye on the road when you’re using it. It is operated using the rotary dial positioned behind the gearstick to control most of the car’s systems, including the radio and sat nav.
